WBF Welterweight Champion Paul "The Marin Assassin" Nave
Former WBF welterweight champion Paul Nave may not be a household name in the boxing world, but he pulled off an upset victory over Greg Haugen in 1998. Both boxers were in dire need of a win at the time. Haugen, who had beaten some big names in his career, was broke, addicted to drugs, and living with his parents at age 37. Meanwhile, Nave, who came from a well-to-do background, fell victim to the allure of drugs and money and ended up in prison.
Nave rebuilt his life and eventually earned his shot at Haugen, winning on points. After a rematch loss to Haugen, Nave retired from boxing and went on to own a successful bar and grill. He even ran for Governor of California but lost to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Now, at age 48, Nave has decided to make a comeback in the ring. His first two opponents were relatively easy wins, but his reflexes and sharpness may not hold up against more skilled fighters. Nonetheless, Nave's big punch will be his only serious game and will likely draw crowds.
