Woodcreek boys and girls win CVC Titles
The Woodcreek High varsity boys and girls teams both absolutely dominated the Capital Valley Conference and took home the championship title at the league championships last Friday at Bella Vista High. The boys’ team won by a hair, with just a single point over Bella Vista, while the girls’ team crushed it with a total of 129.5 points.
There were so many incredible performances by the Woodcreek High athletes. The boys’ team was led by the unstoppable sophomore David Winston, who won both the 800 and 1,600 meters and placed fourth in the 3,200-meter race. But he wasn't the only superstar on the team, Josiah DeBerry placed first in the 100 meters at 10.81 seconds and Joshua Gonzales won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, setting personal records in both events. The 4x400-meter relay team of Connor Rojas, Tyler Henderson, Derek Barnhart, and Josiah Melendez absolutely crushed it with their win at 3:30. Isaac Earls won the discus throw, Trent Herbert won the shot put with a personal record of 48 feet, eight inches, and Jacob Honey placed second in the 3,200 meters at 10:06. It was such an impressive showing by the boys’ team.
And the girls’ team was just as incredible! Sophomore Angela Gladysh won the 1,600 meters at 5:22 and was on the 4x400-meter relay team with Alanna Laverty, Mia McSweeney, and Allison Canchola that won at 4:08. Liberty Zamudio won the high jump at four feet, nine inches, and earned a new personal record in the triple jump at 33 feet to win the event. Senior Hannah Luster won the long jump. These girls were absolutely on fire and showed everyone what they were made of.
What an amazing day for Woodcreek High! These athletes should be so proud of themselves for their incredible performances and all of their hard work paying off in such a big way. Congratulations to both the boys’ and girls’ teams on their championship wins!
