Wilson Era Ends with Corner Canyon State Championship

By Davis Brandi

The 2023 football season for Corner Canyon was a revenge tour. The Chargers completed their season with a State Championship win vs Skyridge 41-27. Since the school opened in 2013, Corner Canyon has won its 4th state championship to end the Wilson era.

Senior quarterback Isaac Wilson got comfortable in his future home at Rice-Eccles Stadium as he will be representing the Crimson U at the University of Utah, Wilson proved his skillset with 192 rushing yards, 3 rush TDs, then 15/23 255 pass yards, and 2 passing touchdowns.  Both passing touchdowns were caught by Junior receiver Jerome Myles. Skyridge’s biggest threat is their front seven. The falcons were averaging 4 sacks a game, they only sacked wilson 2 times as a testament to the dominant Chargers Offensive Line.

Wilson had a great recap of his senior season with the win. Wilson finished the season 6th in the nation in passing yards (4,595) and 2nd in the nation in total yards(5,901) , a true testament to his level of one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the nation. His state championship completed the revenge tour. In the 2022 season, the chargers lost to Lehi during the regular season with a 17-0 lead at halftime. Then lost to the Skyridge Falcons in the state championship. The Chargers redeemed both those losses with the win over Lehi 63-24 in the semifinals, then the win over skyridge.

Head Coach Eric Kjar adds to his winning pedigree, finishing the year with a career record 87-7 as the Chargers head coach and 156-36 in his 15 years as a coach. Kjar is responsible for all 4 state championships. He will now lead the chargers as the wilson era ends with isaac. As well as the Kjar era as well. Kjar has finished coaching his two sons who both played receiver for the chargers. Noah Kjar returned from his Mormon Mission and will play for Weber State next season. Now younger brother Tate Kjar recently signed to continue his football career at Utah State.

The Corner Canyon will have a different look and identity next year but expect the dynasty to continue in Draper.
